ABOUT US
WHO WE ARE.
Our director, Jane VanMeter, is at the helm of Trans Safe. A native Kentuckian and Louisville resident, VanMeter's family has deep connections to the state's businesses and industry, agriculture, and charitable organizations. Her grandfather was John N. Browning, a noted manufacturer, pro-growth leader, and ally of former Gov. Benjamin "Happy" Chandler.
Jane, a trans woman, was born in Maysville. She graduated from the Cincinnati Art Academy and worked as a political cartoonist and illustrator. After her children left home for college, she expanded into writing and producing films.
Jane founded Trans Safe Action Fund in 2023 in response to false political narratives in her home state and anti-trans legislation that have put transgender individuals in danger. Her leadership is instrumental in our mission to raise awareness, educate the public, and mobilize supporters to protect the trans community from dangerous laws and cultural prejudices.
We are also shifting idealogy in the political realm by halting the advancement of bad bills. In 2024, more than 500 anti-transgender bills were filed in 42 states. We’re building coalitions to halt these bad bills. But we recognize that work is not enough, and we have to shift the narrative.
We counter dangerous narratives primarily through advertisements that can alter the public discourse. We rely on these ads to shift attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs. We also make media appearances to disseminate our views and ensure there is equal time for trans people to have their voices heard.
We dream of the day a transgender person can walk down the street and feel safe. With your help, we can get there together.
